I stopped going to clubs, raves and squat parties in my early twenties when I’ve had enough of being disappointed by shit sound quality, deflated by mediocre artists, being surrounded by unfriendly crowd and feeling utterly broken by the dirtiest toilets imaginable. But I still love and follow the music. I remember vividly feeling something instinctive and primal when I realised that these artists maybe our modern day equivalent of a shaman guiding a tribal gathering through a musical journey.
One of the benefits of lock down for me has been the ability to listen to so much more music. I’m finding great music every day and it’s really inspired me to be more creative. It took a long time to wind down and get into the head space of making something but it’s been a lot of fun mixing my favourite tracks. And as a bonus, I get to fulfill my bucket list of designing album covers too! Chix Mix 1 and 2 were images from my Uni days so it’s been 14, 15 years since I’ve done anything creative.
Big respect to Levon Biss, Igor Siwanowicz and countless scientists, engineers and technicians whose macro photography and electron microscope images have enabled us to understand the world in ever finer definition. Their mesmerising photography of nature inspired me to create the image above.
Speaking of inspiring photography, this video blew my mind recently.
